Is this a move to help the RE industry recover?. In my the vast majority of purchases were being done by small investors (like myself) who were keeping local lenders, escrow and RE offices in business. Since most of these small investors own more than 4 properties already, most of these offices will have a serius decline in sales as we small-investors cannot buy any more property.
Shouldn’t the government be helping the RE industry recover, instead of trying to criple it more?. (my 2 cents….oops, will they try to reduce that to 1 cent too?)

Great post, keep in mind that the house doesn't necessarily have to be on the market, just behind on payments and a homeowner can actually short their own loan. When the lender asks the homeowner to sign a note for the forgiven debt I do not consider that a true short sale. Jonathan Christopher of Short Sale Way
